AL GS1
by AppLibra
GS1-128 barcodes in Business Central: application identifiers, GTIN, SSCC, scan to document.
Live on AppSource
AL GS1 is a GS1-128 (EAN-128) barcode engine for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. It encodes and decodes standard GS1 barcodes, manages the Application Identifiers and GTIN/SSCC, and - through a Web API and AL Message Passing - enables logistics automation (scan to lot/weight/pallet on the document) and Zebra labels.
Key capabilities
- Encode / decode GS1-128 - build the barcode from a GS1 template using document data (SSCC, GTIN, lot, dates, serial, net/gross weight, volume, quantity per pack, external document, item) and decode a scanned barcode into its Application Identifiers.
- Configurable master Application Identifiers - length, fixed/max length, regex and data type.
- GS1 templates - define the barcode AIs with a status and a source (company/customer/vendor/group), with GS1 rule validation.
- GTIN and SSCC - bidirectional GTIN resolution (fixed-quantity vs variable-weight, tying GS1 to catch weight) and GTIN/SSCC generation with the GS1 check digit and ITF-14 conversion.
- Scan capture and dispatch - a Web API barcode buffer linked to the document line, with lot/SSCC/weight assignment dispatched over AL Message Passing to AL Tracking and AL Catch Weight.
- Zebra labels - feeds the AL Zebra Print Label template with a tag per AI, including the GS1-128 barcode.
Why it matters
- GS1 standards in the ERP - better data quality, traceability and supply-chain interoperability.
- Scan-driven logistics - load/unload from a barcode scan, no manual entry.
- One engine, both ways - encode for labels and decode for inbound, plus GTIN/SSCC generation.
- Platform integration - Zebra labels, advanced tracking and catch weight connected over the bus.
Built for
Companies with GS1 logistics and supply chains (food, distribution, manufacturing) that want GS1 barcodes encoded and decoded inside Business Central and load/unload automated from scanning.
What makes AL GS1 different
- A real GS1-128 engine - encode and decode with a configurable, regex-validated AI master.
- Bidirectional GTIN - decode vendor barcodes and encode customer-specific ones, with variable-weight support.
- GTIN and SSCC generation - with number series and the GS1 check digit.
- Bus-based integration - scanning, tracking, catch weight and Zebra labels connect via AL Message Passing.
How it works
Configure the GS1 setup (prefix, SSCC number series, AI master), the GTIN sources and the GS1 templates. To print, the app encodes the GS1-128 from the document and passes it to the label; to receive, a scan (via the Web API) creates a barcode buffer that is decoded into its AIs, resolves the item from the GTIN, and dispatches the lot, weight and SSCC to advanced tracking and catch weight on the document.
Requirements
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, version 28.0 or higher, online (SaaS) and on-premises. AppSource covers online environments; on-premises is distributed and installed directly by AppLibra, through the AppLibra License Manager.
- Languages - English (en-US) and Italian (it-IT).
- Dependencies (installed automatically) - AL Barcode, AL Foundation App and AL Message Passing, AL Role Center and AL License and Trial Management, all from AppLibra.
- Scan capture - via Web API and AL Message Passing (not an integrated scanner driver).
